Garrett Hazelwood is a New Orleans-based investigative reporter at Floodlight. Prior to joining Floodlight, he was a freelance reporter and editor, working in both print and audio, including for New Orleans Public Radio (WWNO). His work has exposed an unconstitutional practice in Louisiana that allows judges to benefit financially from setting high bail and securing criminal convictions; revealed how the billionaire owner of an NBA team sold technology to profit off of and surveil immigrant prisoners; and shown the toxic impacts of Louisiana’s chemical fertilizer industry. Garrett also previously worked on grant writing, copywriting, and editing at The Nature Conservancy. His journalism has appeared in VICE, Slate, The Daily Beast and Type Investigations.
