Until Wikileaks.org posted the horrifying video of an American attack helicopter shooting civilians in Iraq — including two journalists — the pioneering whistleblower website was little known to the general public. Following the uproar over the Iraq video I looked up an email message sent a few weeks ago by Julian Assange, the Wikileaks impresario. It revealed a secret plan by US intelligence to take his site down in 2008 (which obviously didn’t work). To learn more about Wikileaks and Assange, see this sharp profile posted by Mother Jones.
