Debbie Nathan

Debbie Nathan is an ACLU Texas investigative reporter in the Rio Grande Valley, focusing on immigration issues. She has been reporting for over three decades on the way cultural anxieties — for example about national borders, class, and gender — often get displaced onto scapegoats, from Mexican immigrants to female mental patients to daycare teachers accused of Satanically molesting toddlers. She has written for The Nation, Redbook, Social Text, Texas Monthly, The New York Times and the Atlantic, among others. Her books include Women and Other Aliens, Satan's Silence, and Sybil Exposed.
